This topic has been circulating around the internet for a number of years now. Back when i was in college i was given the simple task to count as many advertisements i came in contact with on my 15 minute bus journey back home. This number was around 30 different adverts that was located around the city, streets and even on and in the bus.
Now that the digital age is growing and we are using the internet more than ever their comes to this concussion of how do services like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and many others make money…. The answer is ADVERTS!
As a Web Designer/Youtuber adverts is something that allows me to create new content for free but knowing some revenue will be made. Without adverts i’d have to add ridiculous monthly service subscriptions or quit making new content completely but why are more and more people using programs to block adverts? Do they really know about the consequence or don’t they really care?
Yes it would be wonderful to have an advert free internet, where a youtube video’s instantly loads or websites look clean and ad free but are we really willing to pay a monthly fee for each and every service we use?
Just think about it.. What free services do you use? Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Tumblr, Vine, YouNow, Google+. That’s just a small selection of the ones i use and that easily add’s up to 10.. If every service charged £2 a month that would total of £20 a month and £240 a year. That’s crazy!
Adverts are a way to keep these services free and in return you are saying “Hey, i like this service! i don’t mind watching a few adverts to keep it running”
The video above is campaign from an advert blocking service that aims to remove adverts from the internet. Do you use these types of programs? If so Will you be removing them? Give it a watch and post your views and opinions in the comments below.
